Be Cool

Starring John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Vince Vaughn, The Rock, Cedric the Entertainer, Steven Tyler

Rated PG-13

“Be Cool” is the sequel to “Get Shorty,” a wonderful 1995 film about a gangster making it big in the movie business. “Be Cool” is nowhere near the quality of the original, but I still had a good time despite the fact that some of the humor doesn’t work that often.

John Travolta returns as shylock-turned-movie-producer Chili Palmer, who is thinking about getting out of the movie business and getting into the music business. With the help of a record exec’s widow (Uma Thurman), Chili attempts to turn unknown singer/dancer Linda Moon (Christina Milian) into a superstar. But Raji (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Harvey Keitel), her contract owners, aren’t gonna let Chili take her away that easy.

Although “Be Cool” isn’t really as smart and cool as “Get Shorty,” its better entertainment than most people will expect.
