Catwoman
Starring Halle
Berry, Sharon Stone, Benjamin Bratt
Rated PG-13
I went into the theatre for “Catwoman” not exactly expecting anything
great, and that’s just what I got. It’s an action/ superhero movie that
serves no real purpose; where “Spiderman 2” got everything right,
“Catwoman” is dead wrong.
Halle Berry, returning after her recent flop “Gothika,” plays
Patience Phillips, a wanna-be artist who works as a designer for Hedare Beauty
company, run by George (Lambert Wilson) and Laurel (Sharon Stone) Hedare. One
night, she hears something she shouldn’t have and is killed by Laurel’s
goons. Cats find her body, and magically she is brought back to life and has
been transformed to move, think, and see like a cat – or something like that
– it’s all explained by one of those mysterious cat ladies
Soon she becomes Catwoman, but for what purpose? To stop a little crime?
To find her killer? Or maybe to impress her new cop boyfriend, Tom Lone
(Benjamin Bratt)! I don’t know, but it sounds more like the only real reason
she has become this “hero” is so Berry can show her body off as much as a
PG-13 rating will allow.
Alas, the movie is pointless. That’s not to say it isn’t occasionally
fun; there were times when I found myself entertained slightly. But overall,
Berry’s Catwoman isn’t near as fun as Michelle Pfeiffer’s. Maybe the
problem is that this movie doesn’t have Danny Devito or Christopher Walken in
it.
