Chicago

This is a bright, hip version of the 1975 musical/play starring Renee Zellweger as a wanna-be dancer/singer and Catherine-Zeta-Jones as an already famous dancer/singer, who were sent to the same jail for murder.  Sleazy lawyer Richard Gere defends them both, and it becomes a popularity contest between Zellweger and Zeta – Jones as Zellweger becomes a star.  This is a musical brighter and better than last year’s “Moulin Rouge.”  As Nicole Kidman did in “Moulin Rouge,” Zeta-Jones, Zellweger and the cast sing their own songs. We also get to see Gere dance in his boxers!  Queen Latifah and Christine Baranski also star and are just as great.
