The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S.
McNamara
Rated PG-13
*****
“The Fog of War” is a powerful, thought-provoking documentary by
Errol Morris, and it revolves around the life of Robert McNamara, the former
Secretary of Defense for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, and the President of
the World Bank. This brilliant film is mixed with an interview with McNamara and
Morris, and footage from the Vietnam and Cold wars. It also has tape-recorded
phone calls and meetings between McNamara and Kennedy, and McNamara and Johnson.
The movie pieces together 11 lessons from McNamara’s life, and he
explains how America was just ‘this’ close to going to Nuclear War. He
blames Vietnam on the shoulders of the President, and said that if Kennedy had
not been shot, that we could’ve avoided many things.
These controversial views make for an altogether fascinating exploration of the
world of politics. “The Fog of War” is the best documentary of the year.
