In Good Company Starring
Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, Scarlet Johansson
Rated PG-13
“In Good Company” excels at
being a sweet, delicate comedy about corporate takeovers and being in over your
head. The film also features a great performance by Topher Grace, who is mainly
known for roles in “Win A Date with Tad Hamilton!” and “p.s.”
Grace stars as Carter, a young,
new executive at the offices of Sports America magazine who replaces Sales
Executive Dan Foreman (Dennis Quaid), an older man who can’t believe that this
hotshot has taken his job.
Dan could have it worse; Carter
has to continually lay off employee after employee. The only reason Carter
doesn’t fire Dan is because Carter gave Dan the chance to be his ‘awesome
wingman,’ and Dan turns out to be a father figure (of sorts) for Carter.
But things don’t turn out so
great for Dan: Carter begins dating Dan’s daughter, Alex (Scarlet Johansson),
and Dan’s wife becomes pregnant. In the end, “In Good Company” has the
perfect morals and the kind of funny quips you’d expect from director Paul
Weitz (“About a Boy.”)
Note: For the hundredth time, do
not leave your cell phones on during movies. Not only in this film, but also in
many others lately, people have not only let their cell phone ring but also
actually answered their phone! Disgusting!
