The Matrix Revolutions

Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss

Rated R

“The Matrix Revolutions” is without a doubt a real disappointment when compared to the awesome, mind-bending original, or to the soaring sequel, “The Matrix Reloaded.” It has a lot of neat things in it – but turns into complete disaster as it tries too hard with action scenes and ends up making them overlong and boring. But, it could’ve been worse, and most of its flaws I am willing to forgive.

Keanu Reeves plays, once again, the character of Neo, who is now stuck in between the Matrix and Zion (a place that consists of nothing but a train station.) Meanwhile, the war of the machines is coming to a countdown, and numerous ships are sent out and many meetings are held. Laurence Fishburne plays Morpheus, and again has the certain gloomy face that is almost haunting (but that’s what leaders are like, I suppose.) His relationship with Niobe (Jada-Pinkett Smith) is evolved more into the plot, and once Neo is back in Zion, they have no time to waste. Hugo Weaving, as the dangerous Mr. Smith, is duplicating himself more than ever, and even goes as far as to make the Oracle one of him. It all leads down to a thrilling climax and as many special effects as possible are thrown together to make the finale spectacular.

But I was hoping for something more. The Wachowski Brothers are smart enough to turn “Revolutions” into the masterpiece “Reloaded” was, but I guess that the “Enter the Matrix” video game was more important. There were a combination of good and weird characters used in “Reloaded” to make things upbeat – here they are either wasted or not even around. “I know kung fu,” Reeves boasts in the original “Matrix.” Yeah, but you don’t know how to finish what you’ve started.
