Meet the Fockers

Rated PG-13

Starring Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Barbara Streisand, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo

You’d have to be in a pretty bad mood to not get a kick out of “Meet the Fockers,” the sequel to 2000’s hilarious “Meet the Parents.” The movie, directed by Jay Roach, is one uproarious joke after another, and is certainly the funniest film you’ll see this year.

Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) had enough trouble in “Meet the Parents” to get his fiancée’s father, Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro) to let Greg in the ‘circle of trust’, so it’ll probably be even harder to get Jack to approve of Greg’s parents, Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) and Roz Focker (Barbara Streisand.) Let’s just say that Bernie, a retired lawyer, and Roz, a senior sex therapist, are not exactly what ex-CIA agent De Niro and his wife (Blythe Danner) had in mind.

The great thing about “Meet the Fockers” is that the film doesn’t only play off of its predecessor’s jokes; for every gag about Greg being a male nurse, there’s a fresh joke about, say, De Niro creating a fake boob to breast-feed his grandson. When you compare “Meet the Fockers” to the original “Meet the Parents,” you can tell that there’s not a chink in the chain.
