DVD Review: Napoleon Dynamite

Rated PG

Starring Jon Heder, Jon Gries, Efren Ramirez

****

The independent smash hit of 2004 has to be “Napoleon Dynamite,” the weirdly appealing comedy that chronicles the quirky story of Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder), a high-school geek with an attitude problem.

Napoleon encounters many struggles in the film, including his Uncle Rico (Jon Gries) taking over the family house while Napoleon’s grandmother is in the hospital, managing his friend Pedro’s (Efren Ramirez) school president campaign, and dealing with his chat room-obsessed brother Kip (Aaron Ruell.)

While it may not be the first film on your to-rent list, “Napoleon Dynamite” turns out to be a delightful, colorful Sundance hit that struck a chord with America, and that takes a hilarious look at high school life. The film leaves the audience giggling with laughter.
