Racing Stripes With
the voices of Dustin Hoffman, Frankie Muniz, Mandy Moore, Whoopi Goldberg
Rated PG
“Racing Stripes” is an amusing family film that never really reaches the
quality of recent family outings, like “The Incredibles” and “The Polar
Express.” Nevertheless, the movie is worth watching if only to hear Dustin
Hoffman and Whoopi Goldberg voice farm animals.
Filmed in a “Babe”-style level of animation (with live humans carrying the
storyline), the film revolves around a Zebra named Stripes (voice of Frankie
Muniz) who, despite his species, wants to be a race horse. With the help of the
farm animals he lives with and his owners (Hayden Panettiere and Bruce
Greenwood), he finally stops racing the mailman and is entered into a racing
competition with horses.
With the film’s charming underdog theme, “Racing Stripes” has difficulty
balancing the storylines of the animal’s problems and the human’s problems,
but ultimately ends up being energetic and great for children.
