Wow! That’s what I said as I walked of “Shattered Glass,” but really I was saying it about the whole movie. It’s the brilliant character study/biopic/thriller/drama story of Stephen Glass (Hayden Christensen, giving a brilliant performance that exceeds his “Star Wars” performance), a journalist for The New Republic (the only magazine to ever arrive on Air Force One) who starts fabricating stories that are printed as fact. This is shown in flash backs – well, sort of flashbacks – I don’t know what to call them since they never really happened. Glass is first put under suspicion because of an article he wrote titled “Hack Heaven,” and a local journalism internet site stumbles onto the fact that the story is mostly or partly fabricated when they can’t find any of the information on the internet. Glass is soon buried in lies, and it’s fascinating to see how much he can continually lie and keep a straight yet anguished face. It’s an Oscar worthy performance, and interesting for anyone who has a career in journalism – and others as well.
