Shine a Light
Rated PG-13
Starring Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron
Wood, Charlie Watts, Martin Scorsese
Director Martin Scorsese was inevitably going to direct a film about The Rolling
Stones at some point in his career, and Shine a Light, Scorsese’s new
documentary on the Stones, is a great collaboration between filmmaker and
musical artist. The documentary is incredibly alive, perhaps because it isn’t
really a documentary at all – it’s a brilliant concert film, with Jagger setting
the stage on fire, and Scorsese moving his camera in tune with Richards’ roaring
guitar.
Shine a Light
is currently playing at the IMAX Theatre in The Bob Bullock Texas State History
Museum, and I can’t think of a better place to experience such an exhilarating
film. Though some may joke that The Rolling Stones are ‘too old’ to be rocking
out, there is absolutely no denying the thrill of watching two extraordinary
artists doing what they do best.
