Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

            Kerry Conran’s “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” didn’t get spectacular reviews or extraordinary box office, but I found the film to be fun, fascinating, and adventurous.

            In a world that mixes the darkness of the 1940’s with sci-fi futurism, Jude Law is Joe “Sky Captain” Sullivan, who, along with photographer Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow), is solving the mystery of several missing scientists.

            Angelina Jolie is Franky Cook, a helpful commander and friend of Sky Captain’s, and Giovanni Ribisi plays Dex, a computer nerd-of sorts that helps Sky Captain and Polly save the day! Special effects are the name of the game in “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,” which was filmed with the actors in front of a blue screen, while the director would literally yell, “Duck now! A giant robot is trampling you!” And for a film that old-fashioned, this one is pretty good.
