Two for the Money

Starring Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey, Rene Russo, Jeremy Piven

Rated R

There are three people in American film that, attached to any movie, will make the product a must-see for me. Those three people are Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, and Al Pacino. “Two for the Money” stars Pacino, who is as entertaining and energetic as ever. His wild performance jump-starts the film, and he is backed by Matthew McConaughey in an especially well-acted role.

McConaughey plays Brandon Lang, a small-time football betting advisor who is hired by Walter Abrams (Pacino) to move into the big-time by working for a gambling firm. Brandon can pick winners better than anyone Walter has ever seen, so Walter takes him on as his protégé. Brandon learns the secrets, riches, and success to be found in the world of gambling, and is soon taken over by his hotshot alter-ego, John Anthony. But when Brandon’s ability to choose winners diminishes, both lead characters begin descending into madness.

Rene Russo also shows up as Pacino’s concerned wife, and Jeremy Piven appears as a jealous co-workers of Brandon’s. “Two for the Money” gives the audience a great time – lots of gambling, sports, and best of all, Al Pacino.
