An Unfinished Life Starring
Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Lopez, Josh Lucas
Rated PG-13
“An Unfinished Life” is slow-paced,
thought-provoking, and targeted towards older adults. In other words, I loved
the film. Miramax has had this movie waiting for a release for a while now, but
finally it is available for audiences.
Robert Redford plays Einar, a rancher in Iowa
who lives with his pal Mitch (Morgan Freeman), who was left terribly scarred and
handicapped by an encounter with a bear one year earlier. Einar’s son was killed
in a car accident, and he has always blamed his daughter-in-law, Jean (Jennifer
Lopez) for the wreck. So imagine Einar’s surprise when Jean not only asks to
stay at the ranch to escape an abusive boyfriend, but brings along Einar’s
unknown granddaughter, Griff. Einar reluctantly lets her stay, but the troubles
have only just begun.
My only complaint about the film is Lopez’s
performance. I don’t believe it’s her fault, but putting her next to Robert
Redford and Morgan Freeman is a daunting task, and one that many other actresses
could’ve done better (think Hilary Swank alongside Clint Eastwood and Freeman in
“Million Dollar Baby.”) Other than that, “An Unfinished Life” is fantastic.
